Selected Potters

My father and his father are both potters

We have a shop and a very small factory

Not far from the down harbour

It was called or rather nicknamed

The Curse of the Professionals

A throwaway remark from my mother

In the summer we are quite busy

And trade using the brand name Curse

In the winter we are closed for business

Except for mail order and appointments in person

During this time we discuss designs

For the following season and other ideas

Although I am part of our small business

I am not always in the county

As I travel around England seeking out ancient songs

Which I then record and catalogue

I also write poetry and fictions

And this helps me to see new designs

Some of these are followed through

And make it to the shelves

Whereas others exist only in my head

Although I have yet to meet my life partner

I feel that I am in a loving relationship

With the sounds of the past

And the beauty of the wheel

It is because of this that I am a happy man
