On the 26th of March 1944 a small group of German soldiers

Were ambushed by a group of partisans in a forest near Near

They were all shot to death and their bodies dumped into a nearby lake

The youngest of these German soldiers was twenty-four years old

His name was Otto Dann and he had been born in Bavaria

 

In 1988 a group of hikers from Zurich vanished in the same area

No trace was found of them despite extensive and long searches

The whole incident remained a mystery until a pop group

That had named itself Nazi War Mysteries recorded a hit record

Its title was Deutsche Liebesgeschichte or German Love Story

 

The lead singer was called Otto Dann and he was the son of Hilda Mass

Who had vanished along with a group of her fellow Swiss hikers in 1988

Otto Dann his mother told him had been named after his late father

Who had been killed by a group of partisans forty fours years previously

But had found a true and eternal love on that late summers day

When the Swiss hikers had decided to rest and later swim in the haunted lake
