The Nun and Dolly Daydream

Anna

For some reason I have always liked nuns

I feel a sense of peace when I am near them and therein lies a short tale

About twenty years ago I found myself at Chippenham Railway Station in Wiltshire and noticed a tiny aged nun struggling badly with a huge suitcase

I immediately offered her my assistance and three hernia’s later we were outside the railway station waiting for her taxi

I stayed with the nun as she was from the Newcastle area and was totally unfamiliar with the town and Wiltshire in general

It was while the taxi driver was getting his hernia that this lovely woman cupped her tiny sparrow like hands around mine and blessed me which I found rather moving

But little did I know that within the hour this would have a profound effect on my well being

In short I am always incredibly careful when crossing roads but on that day for some unknown reason I was Dolly Daydream.

I crossed without care and suddenly noticed that I was in the path of a speeding car

The driver hit his anchors straight away and I leapt backwards and the drama was over

After apologising to the car driver for being such a chump I began thinking how close I had been to being a piece of  roadkill

This was not a nice thought

I had a coffee to calm me down and then found a nearby church to offer a prayer

Even today I think of this nun and her blessing and wonder

God works in mysterious ways I am told

Was it just a coincidence or was I blessed on that cold February day.

Who knows but I never went out with Dolly Daydream again
