As World War Two drew to a close a German soldier lay dying in the ruins of churchyard in central Dresden
As his life seeped away he took a pencil from his blood soaked coat and wrote some lyrics on to a small piece of paper which anticipated the dance craze some fifty years later
Dance dance to the army choir
Hide in the forest and avoid the fire
Dance
Dance
Dancenpleasure
Life is good
So much leisure
Verona is my home home city
Rome is good
Milan is witty
His did not finish the lyrics and a passing medic who found them next to his body placed them into a bottle a threw them into a nearby shell hole
They have remained there ever since
Today the site of the churchyard is a car park
Its patrons are totally unaware that buried deeply below the surface are the final lyrics of a German soldier called
Helmut Husski
Who died cuddling a white cat in a ruined churchyard in central Dresden as World War Two drew to a close
