The Fish That I Left Behind

I lived in Weston Super Mare until I was twelve

And then my father changed his job

And we moved to Stoke on Trent

Which saddened me as all of the sudden

I had no friends left in the muddy milk sea

Before we left I had been a member

Of a marine blue fish choir red

And learnt many many sea shanties

Word for word fish by fish gull by gull

These were my happy younger years

Things changed when we moved to the Mid Lands

And I soon turned to crime as an enforcer on the streets

I have been in prison for the last eight years

As I killed two men in a gangland hit and run

I mentioned my choir in court but this only increased my sentence

The sea the sea is far far away and no fish can be found nearby

And I spend all my time reading about the sea and the golden gulls anointed

I have another ten years to serve behind these red brick walls

But I am planning to escape as I have fallen in love with my prison visitor

She too used to sing in choir that comprised of Puffins Crabs and Blood Black Gulls
