I am not interested in narrative formalism
That demands a beginning a middle and an end
I just found a piece of sea glass on a beach that is not noted
For its sea glass as there are no historical records of industry nearby
It was not even a mature piece of sea glass as the chemical process was young
I could have thrown it into the sea where it would remain for an indefinite period
Until one day when it would be found once again now mature and would be moulded into a necklace
That would be the conventional narrative a less conventional narrative
Would be that the said piece of glass would be shattered into dust by a jet plane
That would crash on to this beach in a few years causing a great deal of destruction but no loss of life
Possibly nobody but me would write a poem about the life and fate of this small piece of sea glass
It is unlikely that I would be able to use more than three hundred words should I actually choose to write this poem
I could write a description of the chemical process that creates sea glass but again this would be quite short
This piece of sea glass will be displayed for a while and then as it is small I will very likely misplace it
The only narrative is that I am really a careless person who writes rather good poetry and likes all types of sea glass
