Mermaid

Whilst sitting on the pier and fishing without purpose

I netted a mermaid who was none too pleased at being caught

To apologise I took her to the finest restaurant in the town

Where we shared a menu of blue lobster and crab

Afterwards we sat on the beach and counted the stars

Before returning to the pier

Where I taught the mermaid the fundamentals of fishing

Six Mundane Walks on a Concrete Pier

As I walked in driving rain towards the entrance of the pier

A malicious hand locked the iron gates

But I cared little as I had discovered

The third level of the structure

Under the waves

Seats of Remembrance

Tired tinsel with flowers

Now fading

In the late summer sun

Lives remembered in wood

Still gathering sea views

Invasion

The lights on the opposite shore

Are gradually being extinguished

Whilst the lights on this shore

Are full and bright

This occasions a fluorescence

Deep in the channel that separates us
