Molly and the Captain is the name of a pub
On the Late West Green Harbour Arm
It was built in the mid nineteenth century
And for many years was a fisherman’s pub
But as the industries declined in the town
It became the watering hole of the glitterati
Not much as changed as one still meets
Writers and poets actors and musicians
Behind its green black green walls
Many enquire about its unusual name
But the answer is quite simple
As Molly and the Captain
Were a queer couple late of the sea
Who purchased its freehold
Just after the Great War
They died within three years of each other
In the late fifties and for a while
Molly and the Captain was called
The Harbour Arms
But as the result of local pressure
The then owners of the pub
Returned it to its original name
Yet what is not so well known
Is that the ashes of Molly and the Captain
Were laid to rest behind plaster
In a small space above the bar
