It was supposed to be an information film
How to Behave in Britain
A short section was shot in Midgham in 1943
An American soldier is seen crossing the lines
He wants to travel to Cirencester
The station buildings can be seen briefly
As well as the rustic level crossing
I know Midgham station very well and am writing
This poem in one of the austere platform shelters
It is raining hard and the whole station is gloomy
Fast trains pass at intervals and the overhead wires buzz
No longer do humble stopping trains steam into Midgham
These are long dead and now travel only on film
The whole idea of progress is rather depressing
As like many I prefer remembering the innocence of history
