During the last war the artists Claude Cahun and Marcel Moore hung a banner in a local church in Jersey

It read

Jesus is great but Hitler is greater

Because Jesus died for the people

But people die for Hitler

I would not die for any fascist leader

I will not die for any cause

I will not fight in armies

And be cannon fodder because the of stupidity of others

Like many I would protect those dear to me

That is the song of decent men

I prefer to make my own decisions

I write in the shadows

As I do not want to be seen

I am not a recluse

But like to be left alone

My work is more important than I am

You should have no interest in me

As I am only a man with a pen
