The Nothingness of it All

Gerry was standing on the platform edge

Contemplating mortality and coffee

The train was due in six minutes

He looked into the buffet

On the opposite platform

How good the London Cakes seemed

And Jenny was wearing her short skirt again

Jerry could see her panties

As she wiped the greasy tables

In the distance he could clearly

Hear the express crossing the viaduct

He would have to make a decision

Should he jump or refrain from jumping

It was then he saw sweet Jenny

On the platform opposite him

She was holding two London Cakes

And asking him not jump

As it would be bad for business

She might to have to throw food away

And that would not do as she was on a strict budget

Jerry saw the express pass the distant signal

It would roar through the station at over a hundred

Brenda who was Jenny’s Friday assistant

Came out to face Jerry with a J mug

Of tasteless but steaming coffee

The express had entered the station

It was screaming like a banshee violated

I stepped back and sat down

And became Joe again as my creation

Had thrown himself under the train
