From my bedroom window
I used to be able to see the Radley Tower
It was over one thousand feet tall
And was built on Radley Moor
In the late nineteen sixties as a transmitter
My childhood house was built at about the same time
And the house came with the job
My father was one of the engineers
He was asked to monitor the new structure
And later on he was appointed as the Chief Officer
On occasions he travelled up to the viewing platform
And as a treat I accompanied him up there on my tenth birthday
It was whilst I was there that found a woman’s green shoe
Which my father passed to the police as the find was very odd
It was later identified as belonging to Annie Tacklock
Who had been reported missing during the summer of 1949
The tower and the surrounding area was thoroughly searched
But nothing else was found
The whole thing started to have an effect on me as I began to have vivid nightmares
I soon developed an irrational fear of heights which previously had not worried me
But it was something far more horrific that was terrifying me
As on certain nights I thought I could see an eerie green light glowing on the viewing platform
At first thought it was engineers working late into the night
But soon found out that no engineers had been scheduled to carry out maintenance
I started to watch the tower though my telescope but discovered little
And started to become used to the eerie green light
Even though I totally unnerved by the whole thing
I even watched it from my bed as I drifted into sleep
And then the horrors started as on one ordinary evening
The source of the light was revealed to me
It came from a pair of floating green eyes
These eyes were looking straight in my direction
I screamed and sought immediate comfort
My father who had run up the stairs closed the curtains
And let me sleep in the spare room
He even spent a couple of nights in my room
To prove nothing was wrong
But the horror followed me around the house
The eyes were now in my new room and even resting on my pillow
It was this and my loss of weight that that compelled my parents to move away from Radley Moor
And that was the end of it as I soon became a normal boy once again
Although I still hated heights
Radley Tower could be seen from most parts of the county and even as an adult
I would avert my gaze when it came into view although the mystery totally fascinated me
How did the shoe of a girl who vanished in 1949 turn up in a tower that was constructed nearly twenty years later
Why was no trace of Annie Tacklock even found
There were no clues and nobody came forward
The area around around the tower was searched again last year
Using state of the art equipment specially designed for the task
Parts of the nearby moor were also searched yet nothing was found
She had vanished Annie had just vanished into history
That was until yesterday when I received a small parcel
Totally out of the blue
It contained two shrivelled green eyes
I was sick on the spot and recoiled in total horror
Staring at the eyes which appeared to be staring at me
Slowly very slowly but with a glowing precision
Tears were beginning to gather on my wooden table
And were soon covering a considerable space
I touched the tears and they were warm to the touch
It was then that I noticed a hidden note
It read –
Michael I have found you again
Do not leave me
Please do not leave me
