I love travelling overnight on European trains

Here is a list in no particular order of my favourite things

Arriving at continental railway stations late at night

Finding your sleeping compartment and settling down

Waking in the middle of the night

Passing through sleeping towns

Drinking coffee and watching the dawn

Walking through the carriages barefoot

Standing on obscure stations during scheduled stops

Feeling the warm breezes still alive at three in the morning

Watching your wife wash naked how beautiful she is

Sleeping whilst being aware of the motion of the train

Arriving with little pace at your final station

Feeling grubby from your travel which is quite delicious

Realising that it is the journey and not just the destination
