Recently I was given a dated photograph

Taken locally at the turn of the last century

A woman is seen looking out to sea

There is a silent drama within

She appears to be in mourning

Waiting for her deep love

To return from a voyage

That will never end

This photograph was taken

On an overcast day

Clouds hang heavily in the sky

With the only familiarity being

The distant white cliffs

Which have not changed

In over one hundred years
