The Dance Master

Alice and France were dancing
through the shamscape
towards the great house

Their feet hardly touched
the carpet of leaves
that all but hid the damp grass

The end of autumn was dripping
from the branches of the avenue trees
and the dance master was conducting an orchestra
from the mock-castle on the mock-hill
