The White Cocktail

My Italian grandmother warned me during my early years of certain fruits that could be found in most common kitchens

She also taught me of the disastrous consequences should these fruits be mixed to make a White Cocktail

When she died in her ninety-eighth year
Feeling a little tired and rather queer
She handed me a note
Written in her spidery hand
Using purple ink dried with sand

She called it

Words of Warning from your Italian Grandmother

And it read as follows

Cook these fruits with little delay
Before they spoil and slowly decay
Do not do this when the day is bright
And keep all spirits well out of sight

I have never attempted to create a White Cocktail
And have warned many others
Of the dangers of the kitchen
And Italian grandmothers
