When I was very small
I met an engine driver
Who was very tall
He asked if I was a driver to be
Who would drive through Kent
And down to the sea
I said I wanted to be a station-master
As I knew the trains
Would get faster and faster
He said hop on I am going to Deal
Where I will take the air
After enjoying my meal
I handed him my satchel
And he helped me aboard
Where I watched him
Drive the engine
Of his own accord
I met my parents at Canterbury West
And told them of my travels
As an honorary guest
I always thought
I would like to run a station
But am thinking again
About my future vocation
