We travelled widely for over a year
And felt comfortable with each other
Although we are identical in many ways
We just blended in or so we thought
It might have remained like this
Never a destination only a journey
And then our father was drowned at sea
We felt like we had been punished
And separated in our guilt
I remained in Portugal
Distance was the only answer
On the rebound I met another teacher
We lived together until she returned to Brazil
These were our lost years
