Three Poems about Nelly the Pirate written by Nelly the Pirate

One

I shared a chocolate bar with you

And kept the wrapper in my overcoat pocket

As a memento

So why do I call myself

Nelly the Pirate

When I am really a cross-breed dog

Two

I found Nelly the Pirate

Weeping

In a field of wheat

She could feel the waves

But could not swim

Three

Nelly the Pirate

Has a Hokusai print

Titled

The Great Wave off of the Coast of Kanagawa

On her wall

It is the only print she owns

As she detests surfing
