Poet and Writer Killed in a Traffic Accident near Herstmonceux

The little known poet and writer Stuart Miller Osborne was killed in a road traffic accident near the village of Herstmonceux on Sunday at about four in the afternoon.

The author of Sea and other unmemorable poems was travelling to the village as he was engaged in research into The English Tropic a little known phenomenon first identified by the Herstmonceux based chemist Reginald Phillips in the nineteenth century.

No other vehicle was involved and the only witness was twenty-eight year old Polly Preserve who was collecting wild flowers nearby when the accident happened.

His car seemed to change lanes for no particular reason and then it mounted the bank and overturned.

By the time I reached him he was almost dead but I did hear his last words which were

Oh the odious village

Oh the odious village
