The Airfields of Berkshire

Birthday

They were walking hand in hand

On the path

Through the mint green flowers

They were walking hand in hand

On the path

Through the meadow gold buttercups

They were walking hand in hand

On the path

Through the ragged blue thistles

They were photographed with their grandfather

As they walked towards the stones

Where the dairy was once kept cool

Landing in Berkshire

The beer table was uneven

And my soft drink

Landed in your lap

I did not see this happen

As I was flying with Harry

High above the downs

As soon as we landed

Willa told me of your misfortune

And I offered you my flying jacket

Which you declined

Near the end of the runway

On the grassy bank

Ada and Lily were chasing the bubbles

Of their late August day
