New York Poems Two

The Still Centre of Maggie Paul

Maggie Paul haunted the waterfronts

In search of Terry Malloy

But she could not find him

She was not even in the right place

Johnny Friendly warned her to stay away

But she ignored him and was beaten up

So she planned his assassination

From her room on W 10th St

Before she joined her friends

For coffee in the village

Jerome and Millie

Jerome had always considered himself

To be a mean black motherfucker

Until the day that he met Millie White

Who owned a hat shop in Queens

She took him off the streets

And now he is designing hats

For the thriving business

That they jointly own

Walk on the Wild Water

A Native American who called himself

Walk on the Wild Water

Met Jean-Michel Basquiat

In a coffee shop on Broadway

To discuss the possibility

Of placing highly coloured

Totem poles throughout the city

They were served by a waitress named Roxanne

Who was going to catch the movie Personal Shopper

After her shift

As she was in love with Kristen Stewart

Hip Hop Henry

Lived on the Lower East Side of Manhattan

And was a leader in the hip-hop post-punk street art movements

In his spare time away from the madness of his Wall Street job
