Smouldering Rags
Alice kept a newspaper photograph of a dead sculptor on her studio wall
She was a potter and not particularly in interested in sculpture
But she felt comfortable in his presence
When her studio caught fire after the kiln overheated
The only thing that she rescued was the newspaper cutting of the dead sculptor
Five Waterspouts
Peggy lived in coastguard’s cottage
One day during a storm at sea
She saw five waterspouts
Heading towards her home
It was then that she knew
That her sisters would be visiting
She had trained to be a classical violinist
But did not care for the fragile instrument
1944
In 1944 her father saw five waterspouts when at sea
And wrote a letter to his future daughters
Urging them to avoid waterspouts at all costs
Happily Peggy’s future father survived the war
And became a classical violinist
Until his death in 1967
Reunion
In 1967 on the island of Reunion Peggy met Alice
Whilst swimming and searching for serpents at sea
They fell in love but did not meet again until 2017
When they discovered each other again on
The Railway Station of Lost Memories
The Blue Train
For fifty years they had travelled together on the Blue Train
Without seeing each other
Alice had become a potter
And Peggy a sculptor
Who had refused to be photographed
With her classical violins
As she was much terrified
Of the serpents within
