Isidore of Seville

When waiting for trains at Santa Justa

I often think of Isidore of Seville

I consider Montalembert’s view

That this good man was

The last scholar of the ancient world

He converted many to Catholicism

And now hundreds of years later

Their ancestors comfortable within their religion

Pass me in their hundreds on the smooth platforms

Of this spectacular railway station
