It is the hottest day of the year

One hundred degrees has been announced on the radio

My journey was short but I feel exhausted and sit on the pebbles

But this does not help me as I am melting slowly in the sun

I walk into the sea and this immediately begins to cool me off

The waves are getting stronger though and an undertow can be felt

I consider swimming but I feel that the sea is in a dangerous state

So I remain still and wait for the final wave of the afternoon to visit me

At three twenty three it arrives and without ceremony it breaks onto the beach

I am refreshed and spend the rest of the afternoon collecting passing sea breezes
