The Travel Diaries of Viola Gresham (Wiltshire 2012-2013)

Viola (View from my Schoolroom)

I could see the White Horse
and the tall chimney of the cement works
from my schoolroom
Viola could not see these landmarks
as she lived in Rhodesia

Viola (Fireworks over Stonehenge)

As the fireworks broke the mottled night sky
Viola spoke to the moon
telling it not to be afraid
as the celebrations were for the benefit
of the tourists and not the stones

Viola (Resting under the Sun-Stone)

It was a wet day
Viola rested naked
under the Sun-Stone
she did not feel the cold
as we did
for she had been nursing the warriors
who lay slain amongst us

Viola (Visit to Stonehenge)

She had visited the bluestones before
but did not greet them
on this occasion
she collected only the damp clay
as she was building a canal
to transport the dead

Viola (Counting the Comets)

Quite often Viola counted the comets
as they passed high above the stones
on her birthday she was offered a ride on one
and returned to Rhodesia
