A Town in all its Finery

The town was dressed in all its fine clothes and was showing off that evening
With the low white sun adding to its considerable drama
The vast sky which had been idle for most of the day was supporting a few clouds
With an abandon that attracted little or no attention
But I was not fooled as I sat on the beach bench in my ocelot coat
My gentle sister was reading a book of poetry
The book had a Titian Blue cover which was unusual
As books of poetry often find this shade of blue quite inhibiting
I was writing a book of love poems that was to have a turquoise cover
But I was receiving silver letters asking me to change my mind
And that was the sole reason that I was visiting her coastal town
On this of all evenings as the vain summer slowly ebbed away
