Tangerine

He was a Gatsby like character who was handsome and remote at the same time
But he was well liked by those who attended his Tangerine parties
He actually called them his Mandarin parties as his late mother was French
But accepted that Hamptons folk were more used to the harsher English word
They said that his money came from oil or that he had connections with the automobile industry
But nobody really knew much about his past and apart from the curious did not really care
His Tangerine parties were legendary and guests were expected to wear something tangerine however small
I always wore a tangerine bracelet which matched the relaxed colour of the fruit and swam often in his tangerine pool
His tangerine cocktails were unmatched and were created by exotic negros who had sailed from France
And then the war came the fun stopped there were no more luxurious parties held next to the silver beach
He never returned and now weeds and black ivy have suffocated his once magnificent house
