A derelict piano stands alone next to a damp bonfire

It is ready to die as it no longer contains music

This once fine instrument will accept no reprieve

And looks forward to the taste of the cleansing flames

This is the original version of my poem When the Music Stops which was lost for a few days in March 2020
Both poems were inspired by the sight of a wrecked piano next to a damp bonfire in a Wiltshire field
