Last week I was on a tram in Bratislava when a woman approached me and informed me that these trams have been electrically powered since the opening of the system in 1895

Her daughter then asked me whether I kept of photograph of a dog in my study

I told her that I did have a photograph of a dog on the wall in my study

The photograph had been taken in St Tropez in the 1970s

I had been strolling along the harbour side when a friendly mongrel came up to me and licked my hand

For some reason I took my camera out and captured its likeness

Its owner thinking that it was bothering me ordered his dog away

That was the last time I saw the dog
