At about five in the evening the skies began to darken
And banks of clouds soon hung heavily above the town
Lightning could be seen deep at sea
But there was no rain
Just hot winds
That swirled and played
With unconscious abandon
Along the coastal roads
And then without warning the rains arrived
Violent in their impact
But warm to the touch
The crowds that had come to watch the carnival
Evaporated in seconds
Leaving the theatre clear
Electricity was everywhere
The storm had arrived
