A statue of a brave bullfighter

Stands outside of this arena

It is said that he defeated six bulls singlehandedly

But that was long ago and today the arena is empty

Save for a few tourists and their guides

 

As I pass the arena I note a colourful poster promoting

Future pop concerts and other events

 

For some reason I think of the early Christians

Who died here in great numbers

They are not well remembered

Which is a little sad

 

It is nearly forty today

Which is in advance of Mondays temperature

By three or four degrees
