High Street

It was humid that day with the hot air coming all the way from Southern Spain

I was sitting on a bench in the High Street reading my newspaper

When I noticed that Jesus Christ was standing behind me

Handing out copies of The Life of Marcello Mastroianni

Many people were ignorant of the actor but accepted the gift nonetheless

However I liked Italian cinema and had seen many of his movies

When I asked Jesus why he was involved in such a mundane task

He told me that the most mundane tasks were the most important

For the rest of a very hot afternoon I assisted Jesus in handing out the books

Which were gratefully received although some were suspicious of our motives

Towards the end of the day a kind waiter brought us an ice cold coke

Which we both enjoyed although I did notice that my newspaper had been stolen
