Sitting on the roof with Gertie

From the roof on my house

We can see the lake

But we had chosen

Not to swim

As it was more comfortable

On the roof

Reading books

Gertie

Was wearing

A yellow cotton dress

Which she had purchased

In the city

On the day of her arrival

You cannot see the city

From the roof

Of my house

Which is an advantage

As the heat

In the city

Is stifling

Throughout the summer months

Whereas a gentle breeze

Is known

To originate from

The glass lake

And refresh my house

During the afternoon
