In 1982 I worked in a bookshop when a mysterious book arrived

It was called Mantissa and was the creation of John Fowles

I purchased a copy and read it soon afterwards

And it has remained on my shelves ever since

That was until yesterday when I found an identical copy

Which now resides on my bookshelf next to the original copy

My wife is called Amsterdam and she also has two copies

Of Mantissa which she keeps together on her occasional table
