Jack Kerouac once said and I quote
Don’t use the phone
People are never ready to answer it
Use poetry
I tend to agree with him as poetry is the purest form of writing
It is harder to write poetry than prose
I could never write a conventional novel
As I would reverse the narrative
It would become elliptical
And characters would just vanish
All before the end of chapter two
My heroine would have raven hair
Just like the dark lady of the sonnets
And then she would become an icy blonde
This is why I write poetry and not prose
If you imagine an imaginary circle
You will find that most people
Would enter a the highest point
But others would enter at a lower angle
These are the poets and the thinkers
I am not saying that either of these people
are better or more intellectually
gifted than the other
but they do differ
It is all a matter of angles
Poetry speaks to us all
But we do not listen to it
It is the same as ignoring the phone
Because you are in the bath
With a Catholic priest
Who has promised to keep quiet
As buggery is forbidden
In rented flats with views to the street
If I slipped a poem under your door
You would read it and wonder
Why I did not hand it to you in person
As it was rather good in a strange way
Straight men do not write poems about buggery
As the act secretly disgusts them
I find that writing about women
Is an easier task as I adore the feminine
Women are adorable creatures
So suited for a poets pen
And if they possess a rare beauty
Then poems such as this one
Will be created and recorded
In your blind subconscious
