In the summer of 1977 I found myself in a small village not far from Maidstone
It was whilst I was there that I found a pile of paperbacks
On a small table outside of a General Store
I soon found a tired copy of The Stranger by Albert Camus
We were in the area as we were picking strawberries
Which was great fun as the summer days were very hot
I can remember being in a tent with my girlfriend Jane
Who was sleeping as she was tired after a long day
For convenience I had propped my book up against her bare bottom
So that I could listen to the Test Match on my small transistor radio
Strangely enough this small event engraved itself
And I often recall it when I am passing through the area
