In 1944 my father who was an American GI watched as the volcano swallowed the railway for the last time

He told me about this when I was old enough to understand the meaning of his interesting story

In 1984 I travelled in the chairlift for the last time before it too was closed because of safety concerns

Last year I told my children of my frequent trips on the chairlift as I knew that they would understand me

It is my sincere hope that my children will repeat both these stories to their children and their children’s children
