I have a friend who lives on the South Coast

He was once a soldier who lost his nerve

When in battle

And requested a favour from God

If I remain alive I will sacrifice the first living thing that crosses my path when I return to my home

He expected it to be his elderly dog

But his youngest daughter was the first to greet him and the dog had died some days previously

The soldier did not sacrifice his youngest daughter but offered his sight instead

This was accepted

My friend still has his sight but is expected to return it to its rightful owner when he dies

Which is sad as he will not be able see the glories of his heaven
