Rose Rosetta

The signal box had been designed in a modernist style some eighty years previously

The signalman (who I will call Joseph) was drinking a cup of tea

No trains were due for an hour

Rose Rosetta was walking towards the railway crossing with her three year old son (who I will call Joseph)

Nearly a mile away a lorry was hauling an oversize load

A brand new combine harvester

The driver (who I will call Joseph) was aware of the level crossing as he had used the route on many occasions

He was driving slowly

Rose Rosetta had a tattoo on the calf of her right leg

It was a tattoo of a lorry hauling an oversize load

A brand new combine harvester

As they neared the railway crossing her son (who I will call Joseph) asked when the next train was due

His mother explained that there would be no trains either way for at least an hour

But if he waited for a little while longer then he would see a lorry that was hauling an oversize load

A brand new combine harvester

They both waited and soon the lorry with the oversize load passed over the railway crossing which gave the young boy a great deal of pleasure

As the day was very warm (even hot) Rose Rosetta took her son home as he was not wearing his sun hat

She promised the child that they would return to the railway crossing and that he would be able to see as many trains as he liked

Exactly a year later Rose Rosetta kept her promise to her son as the day was cooler and the services of a sun hat were not required

The signalman (who I will call Joseph) was drinking a cup of tea

No trains were due for an hour

So he and Rose Rosetta both opened packs of sandwiches that they had purchased in the town previously

Rose Rosetta and her son were enjoying cheese and tomato sandwiches whilst the signalman in the modernist signal box was eating cheese and pickle sandwiches

What neither of them realised was that the bread had been made from the wheat which had been harvested by the brand new combine harvester that had passed over the railway crossing exactly a year previously
