Purchased a white organ for the All Hallows Church
In homage to the Emperor Hadrian
Quite why then did this was quite often questioned
And it was this subject that Caron and I discussed quietly
As we strolled around an empty church
Not far from the River Thames
Maybe it was their love of Twickenham or maybe of Christopher Wren
Or maybe they just loved the hinterlands and the damp dark river shore
It was during our deliberations that we noticed an angel
Near to the decorated door
She was beckoning us with her delicate hand
A gibbon awaits
A gibbon tall and pure
She pulled back a dusty drape and revealed a grinning primate
Why did you purchase the organ white?
I asked whilst shaking its hairy hand
We purchased the organ because of the Twickenham Bridge
The Chertsey Road and the Twickenham Bridge
The homage was but a gentle whim
Dreamt up by our elders
For it was the suburbs we all loved
And this was the reason we installed the white organ high above our heads
As Caron and I looked up we began to laugh with the cherubs and angels too
Indeed there was not a dry eye to be found that day
But the greatest amusement was reserved for the gibbons
