Belonged to a Mr Charles Martin
Who lived near the suspension bridge
In his youth he had known Darwin
And had joked about their shared name
Although he was now nearly ninety
Charles Martin still collected earth worms
As he considered them a superior species
He would often throw them from the bridge
And later note in his journals how many of the worms
Had survived the fall
