Taking Tea at Torcross
On an English afternoon Beatrice and Edward were taking tea at an outdoor café in the coastal village of Torcross
The day was cool with an easterly breeze
On the deep horizon two schooners were passing
Out of Estonia
Edwards was watching them through his binoculars
Beatrice was writing in a red notebook
Those schooners are bound for the Azores you know
I think not
Why?
Because they have just travelled from the Azores
Then why are they travelling in a westerly direction?
All schooners travel in a westerly direction it is the first rule of the sea
I cannot say I agree with that
The Polish Projectionist
Invited me into the projection room at his cinema
I inspected the equipment
And noted that it was in fine working order
The projectionist invited me to meet his family
It was only when we were driving through the cornfields near his home that I discovered that I had left my sandals at the cinema
We returned to Tallinn where I retrieved my footwear
Later in the afternoon I met his family
He had a son and two daughters
One of his daughters was only three inches high
Although she had obviously reached maturity
The Wonders of the Machine
Yellow lichens
Turning orange
Denote maturity
Henry informed me of this fact
As we travelled towards Tallinn
In his speedboat
He was wearing white jeans and a pale blue shirt
Marie was sunbathing next to me
She was reading a book
It was called
The Wonders of the Machine
