In the corner of the sports ground five cricketers were watching a football match
Their game had been interrupted by frequent showers
You and I were lying peacefully in a display of lilacs high above the ground
I was wearing my best suit which had been carefully made by a Jewish tailor
And you wearing just a skirt
But what a skirt this was
A gift from your maternal grandmother
As we floated you expressed a concern that your breasts might be seen by those below
At first I did not answer
But you repeated your concern
I explained that we were tiny people and even the lilac posey could not be seen from the ground
You relaxed and loosened my tie
I ran my hand along your bare shoulder
You shivered although it was not cold
I held you and kissed your cheek
Which was blushing red
As red as the threads within your skirt
In the distance above the dark shower clouds
The sun shone brightly
And our lilac flowers celebrated its warmth
But not its colour
A droplet of water ran between your breasts
See the weather reaches us too
You are mistaken for it is only a tear
A tear?
From the Day Moon
Why should the Day Moon weep?
It weeps frequently
But why?
Because it loves the tiny jews so much
We are much loved by the Day Moon
But it is often bullied by the sun
Our jealous father
Michal looked into the bright blue sky
Why is such conflict in Heaven?
The wind started to rock the lilac posey
Do not fear the fierce wind it is of no hindrance to us
But I was wrong and our posey began to break apart
And we floated downwards slowly on a lilac petal
I was seated in the wooden stand watching the football match
The purple and white lilac petal fell into my lap
It was closed
I examined it and saw a tiny Jewish couple huddled in each other’s arms
They were both sleeping
In the sky above a vivid rainbow was burning
The Jewish girl opened her eyes
Help us sir for we have been expelled from the heavens
My name is Michal and this is Chaim
Do not worry for as soon as the rainbow is gone I will walk to the field of the lilac bushes and there create a display to enable you to travel high
Why do you help us so you are such a good man?
Because like you I was expelled from the heavens during a sudden storm and fell to earth with my beloved
But there was no-one to give us aid and because of that both Caron and I grew fully and since have had children and grandchildren
We have been much blessed
Unlike the others in this football ground I was aware of your distress and that is why I collected your petal
The Jewess did not answer me and closed her eyes
I placed the petal into my jacket pocket
The game ended and in the pouring rain I walked towards the lilac field distant on the downs
When I arrived some hours later the storm had passed and the rainbow had faded
I soon found a magnificent lilac bush and began to weave a posey from its colourful petals
When it was complete I placed the fallen petal in the centre of the display and it floated upwards almost straight away
The Jewess leaned over the edge of the posey as it gained height
Who are you sir?
What is your name?
Saul my name is Saul
But you may know me better as Chaim
I watched as the lilac posey vanished from my immediate view
Later I met my wife in the lane that led to the town
She placed a dry coat on my shoulders
You have walked far again
The battles in heaven have returned and it is my duty to protect the innocent
As we have been protected and blessed since our arrival many years ago
At the crossroads we both stopped and watched as the poesy drifted in the lunar winds towards the passive day moon
The angry sun was still quite high
War was threatened
And I knew only the innocents would suffer
