Subway to the Beach

Along the wall of the subway that leads to the beach

Many posters may be found

Some show women from over forty years ago

With Juliet Greco in their eyes

Their black hair is cut quite short

It is again chic you know to wear your hair

And show your neck

Other posters more sinister show faded photographs of the missing few

Were they ever found I ask?

I would not like to think of them dead

A steel door must be opened to visit this beach

It is closed today and heavily guarded

A few beachgoers wait patiently looking cold

One does not swim in the winter I think

How ridiculous of them

To think they could

My dream is fading

I can hear the traffic now

And feel the dryness of my breath on my pillow

I may return to this subway

But doubt if I will

As when I visit the beach again

I will use the palm path like everybody else
