Today will be the warmest day of the year so far

The sky is clear the sun raw and there is not a hint of a cooling breeze

For some reason no narrow boats have passed us in either direction

Perhaps a lock is under repair or there are navigation problems on the canal

But what we have noticed over the last few days is the emergence of paddle boarders

They move along the canal with a minimum of fuss on brightly coloured boards

Usually there is only one person on the board but occasionally there are two

It is a tranquil occupation and today we saw a number people enjoying this recreation

They disturbed only the surface fish and the inquisitive water birds as they drifted on the slow waters

Perhaps one day Caron and I will paddle a board between locks or maybe further

We will let our senses rest and enjoy the smooth simplicity of our silent voyage
