Stephen and the Sea Urchins

Nature in itself has many signatures some are simple and others are much more complex
In car parks for instance the sequential numbers that are stenciled onto the rough walls begin to fade after a few years
Yet the car park is still functional
This worries me a great deal as I often study sea urchins
These creatures have no conception of car parks although they cling to rough surfaces
Which are similar to those found in multi-story car parks
I used to work in a care home before I started studying sea urchins
Sea urchins have no hands
But most of the people in my care had hands
Some of these were no more than claws riddled by disease
Yet when I brought them tea they would try to grip the cup
Even though they knew that they would require my existence
This was an instinctive reaction
My sister told me that these aged hands would soon be caressing God
I disagreed with her as there is no God
But their hands still fascinated me
Sea urchins have no conception of God
Neither do the sequential numbers that can be found in car parks
Unlike me they do not fear death
As they do not understand the infinite
