The Freshwater Bay Poems

Horses Damage Hotels

This morning whilst shaving I saw a pigeon in difficulties

On a slate green roof opposite

It was trying to climb to the summit of the roof

But was slipping wet slipping without significant progress

A passing duck suggested flight but its advice was ignored

Over breakfast at the Albion Hotel I thought of the poor pigeon

Slipping and wet slipping on that slate grey roof

But when I looked for it again soon after my meal

The small bird had vanished and was said to be riding

Wild sea horses in Compton Bay

As I contemplated this information

I complemented my wife on her fine breasts

For she had forgotten to dress

After her morning shower

Which was an easy mistake to make in a Victorian Beach Hotel

Crabs at Freshwater Bay

During my brief stay I discovered that there were no crabs

To be found in Freshwater Bay

This concerned me as I admired the creatures

And took care not to consume them

I was told by the starfish

That the builders were to blame

Which I only partially believed as starfish are not to be trusted
