Trapped in an Elevator in Black and White

We have been trapped

In this elevator for six hours

Life is black and white

Our presumed rescuers

Have warned us about this

Angela is telling us

About her many relationships

In graphic detail

My eyes are getting heavy

But when I close them

Her story becomes more graphic

I once slept with a man I confessed

Along with his girlfriend

We were all naked

But it was not sexual

Just common sense

As our clothes were wet

This is the only time

I have shared a bed

With anyone else

I was once warned

Not to camp in the rain

As no matter the precautions

You will get wet

And catch a chill

Which will make

You feel wretched

I once saw Pele play

Announces Miguel

Who had not spoken before

What people do not see

Is the defensive shift

That he puts in

He was the complete footballer

A certain degree of colour

Is returning to our lives

I can see the colour

Of the Brazilian shirts

But overall

Black and white persists

We will be rescued soon

But the process is tricky

As there is a real danger

That the elevator will plunge

Twenty-eight floors

And we will be crushed

Which is a sobering thought

Juan tells us

That his apartment

Is opposite the

Basillica de la Sagrada Familia

In Barcelona

Which pleases him

As he loves God

And architecture equally

It is getting very hot

In the elevator

As the air conditioning has failed

I was not aware that elevators

Had air conditioning

Paz tells us that she feels faint

So I lend her my vest

To keep her cool

I am now wearing

My Elvis shirt

Which I stole

From my sister

The lights fail

And the emergency lights

Kick in

I find this subdued lighting

Quite relaxing

Cold drinks and food

Have been lowered

Through the escape hatch

I enquire of its use

And am told

It is too risky

They are no grey areas

Only black and white

Angela

Who has been quiet

Tells us all

That she studies

Butterflies

In her spare time

As it takes

Her mind off of

Her failed relationships

I tell her that if

We escape alive

That I will marry her

She accepts on the spot

Miguel states

That he is a priest

And will be happy to marry us

Twenty-eight floors up

It is a beautiful ceremony

And we begin to plan

Our honeymoon

In a safe and

Colourful place

Near the sea

Angela whispers to me

That she is wearing

Her red bikini

Under her red dress

As she wants to

Be prepared

At a moments notice

For her honeymoon

Should she get married

In an elevator
