We should have been in bed resting
But we were out on the neon razz
And strolling the streets of the meadows
Instead of being in bed dreaming
As we were driving to Death Valley next day
To discover ourselves in the high bar heat
I was wearing a white cotton shirt
And scruffy jeans that complimented my worn blue sneakers
You were wearing a green cotton dress and lazy sandals
We both looked quite cool and chic which was nothing but an illusion
As we were both screaming inside for the freedoms of the desert
I was reading Howl and you were reading On the Road
We were living The American Dream with our eyes tightly closed
But were blissfully unaware of this fact
As we were by now blue barefoot bright
